Trouble Taming Your Land? A Well-Built Retaining Wall Can Solve Many Problems
Is your backyard on an incline that drops off?
Do you want to integrate stone steps into a hill?
Are you mowing downhill and want your yard leveled?
Do you want to add a basement entrance below grade?
Is your driveway collapsing due to erosion?
Have a dilapidated old retaining wall, with poor drainage?
Eliminate a slope and reduce lawn maintainance with a concrete retaining wall
There are many use cases for retaining walls. The most common is illustrated in this photo of our project in the Wallkill area.
The yard drops off at a steep incline without the retaining wall, making the lawn in that area challenging to maintain with a mower. Erosion would be constant, and the property would never look as clean as it does without the new retaining wall we built.
"A lot goes into building a retaining wall correctly so it doesn't fail"
I'm Roger Stevens, Jr., president of Loyal Landscaping. I wanted to take a moment to talk about retaining walls.
When I build a retaining wall, I put a lot of time and care into it. I build it precisely without taking shortcuts.
We always use quality materials, and we're not just saying that. When you use excellent materials and industry-standard best practices for construction, a retaining wall will perform as expected and last 20+ years or more.
If you want a retaining wall that looks great and will stand up over time, let's talk.
Installing a basement entrance and walkway below grade
When installing a basement entryway below grade, it's necessary to dig out a channel of the earth to make room for a door and or walkway.
We excavated the area below grade in this project and installed a concrete block retaining wall with a natural Bluestone walkway.
Pressure treated, wood retaining walls for a warmer aesthetic
It makes more sense aesthetically to go with a pressure-treated wood retaining wall for some situations. Wood has a softer, more organic look than a concrete block, which can be quite appealing to some.
Will a wooden retaining wall last as long as a concrete wall?
If your wall is constructed correctly with proper drainage, it may last just as long as a concrete wall. We have rebuilt wooden retaining walls for clients that were 50+ years old. When you build it right, it will last!
Small retaining walls for landscape shrubs
Shorter retaining walls are used in concert with your patio to define the landscaping areas and the patio itself.
You will notice that the retaining wall in this photo is at an ideal height for sitting. A retaining wall can also provide a place for people to sit and double as a "sitting wall."
